In the classroom that I observed was a Kindergarten classroom in which all 23 students were African-American. And in the classroom the students are working on a different number of social skills, the main two being listening and responding. In the lesson that the students were doing that day, they were learning the different functions and forms in animals. The students were working in groups most of the time and in one of the groups they were working with the teacher on a worksheet figuring out with mouths on different animals are biting mouths or not biting mouths. While they are working on the worksheets students are talking with one another and bounce ideas off of one another, and if someone in the group is confused the other students help them out. Something that I noticed while watching the group activities was that the students often use their hands to show how the animal would use that part of their body.
